On the 24th of Dhul-Hijja, Muslims celebrate the day of Mubahil. Mubakhil is if two parties could not discover the truth through discussions and none of them admitted their defeat, then as a last resort resorted to Mubakhil. Both sides prayed to Allah to send misfortune on the one who was wrong. Mubakhilya is a very responsible step. A person must be sure of his rightness to offer such a prayer. There are enough facts in history, how after Mubakhil one of the parties mysteriously died.
The most famous Mubahil took place in the 9th or 10th year of the Hijjah on the 24th of Dhu’l-Hijjah. Since a delegation of Christians, arriving from the south of Arabia, held religious talks with His Eminence Muhammad. When the parties did not come to a single opinion on the question of who was His Eminence Isa (a) – a prophet or God, it was decided to resort to Mubahila. The next day, the Prophet arrived at the appointed place, taking with him his daughter Fatima, cousin and son-in-law of Imam Ali, grandsons Hasan and Hussain. Seeing the determination of the prophet, the Christians changed their mind, admitted their defeat and quickly turned back. The event of Mubahil is considered one of the most reliable proofs of the superiority of Ahli Bayt.
In the Qur’an, it is written about this event: “Whoever disputes with you about this after the knowledge has come to you, then say: “Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our wives and your wives, ourselves and yourselves, and then let’s pray and invoke the curse of Allah on the liars! (3:61).
