Holy month of Ramadan

On March 11 or 12, the Muslim holy month of Ramadan began in different countries of the world. Ramadan is a month of fasting during which believers abstain from eating, drinking and smoking from sunrise to sunset. During Ramadan, devout Muslims work during the day, pray, read the Koran, indulge in pious thoughts and perform equally pious deeds; charity during this period is obligatory. As in other major religions, the sick, children, elderly people, pregnant women and people on the move are exempt from fasting during Ramadan. However, Ramadan is not only about fasting; the Holy month is the best time for spiritual cleansing and atonement for sins.
