The Last Day of Safar Marks the Martyrdom of Imam al-Rida

The last day of the month of Safar is observed by many Muslims as the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Rida. Imam al-Rida was the eighth Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt and the son of Imam Musa al-Kazim. According to historical sources, in 203 AH, on the last day of Safar, he was poisoned and martyred on the orders of the Abbasid caliph al-Ma’mun.

Throughout his life, Imam al-Rida placed particular emphasis on the promotion of knowledge, spirituality, justice, and the principle of monotheism (tawhid). He also engaged in scholarly and theological discussions with representatives of various religious and philosophical schools.

Imam al-Rida was buried in the city of Mashhad, and his shrine has become one of the most important sacred sites, visited by millions of Shi’a Muslims from different countries around the world. On this occasion, Muslims who follow the Ahl al-Bayt commemorate the life and legacy of Imam al-Rida and reaffirm their commitment to his intellectual and moral teachings.
