Month of Muharram

This year, the first day of the month of Muharram falls on July 7 or 8, and the 10th of Muharram – the day of Ashura – falls on July 16 or 17. The month of Muharram is the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar. In the month of Muharram, mourning ceremonies are held in connection with the death of the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad Imam Hussein and his family members. They were killed in the year 61 on the day of Ashura (10th day of the month) according to the Hijri calendar.
