Amnesty International stands up for the hijab
In France, freedom of speech, assembly, as well as human rights, especially women, are actively violated on racial, national and religious grounds. The relevant facts are given in the Amnesty International report “The State of Human Rights in the World”. Examples of oppression of women and religious minorities include the French Basketball Federation’s ban on wearing Muslim headdresses at competitions, the government’s ban on wearing a hijab for representatives of French delegations and teams at the 2024 Olympics, the ban on wearing national Arab dresses – abayas – in schools, as well as the refusal of government authorities to issue permits for holding rallies of solidarity with Palestine.
