History of Islam

Lesson fourteen

Twelfth Imam and Fourteenth Immaculate Imam Mahdi

The question of the coming of the world savior, who will change the face of the world and establish a world of justice and justice in a world overflowing with oppression and atrocities, is raised in all heavenly scriptures and divine religions. The Prophet of Islam, according to many traditions retold from Shia and Sunni sources, commanded: "When the whole world is overwhelmed with oppression and atrocities (that is, when human society turns into a society of predators), my eleventh son will appear, whose name and horses coincide with my name and konya "Muhammad" and "Abu al-Qasim", and put an end to all misfortunes and in the full sense of the word spread Islam throughout the world.

Features of the twelfth Imam, His Grace Mahdi, are expressed in the traditions of Sunni and Shiite origin, some of which we bring to your attention:

His Lordship is the child of the prophet, Ali, Fatima and Hussein. He is the ninth child of Imam Hussain and the sixth child of Imam Sadiq and the fourth child of Imam Rida and the son of Hasan Askari.

He has two periods of absence, or, more precisely, of hiding from view, of which the first is short-lived, and the second is very long. The second absence is so long that those who do not have firm faith will gradually begin to doubt.

His Lordship's life will be very long. When he appears, the whole world will be filled with justice and justice by him, and divine power will be established throughout the world.

These and other features, retold in hundreds of Shiite and Sunni traditions, are given so that people recognize those who pretend to be Mahdi - the promised one, do not succumb to their deceptions and do not go astray.

The twelfth imam, his lordship Mahdi, was born in 255 or 256 AH in the city of Samera and until 260, when his father died, many saw his lordship as a child in the house of Imam Hasan Askari and could observe in him signs of greatness and features of the imam. Imam Askari himself, within the framework of what was permitted, reminded people of the question of the imamate of his son.

Since 260, when his venerable father Imam Askari died, his lordship disappeared from the eyes of the people (for the Abbasid caliphs intended to kill him and made every effort to arrest his lordship). Nevertheless, during the seventy-year period, which is called a small absence, the relationship of the Shiites with his lordship did not stop. This happened because during this period four people, one after another, were appointed by his lordship as special representatives, to whom people turned and expressed their scientific and religious needs to them and received worthy answers. From the year 329, when the fourth special representative died, a period of great absence began. His lordship did not appoint special representatives for this period and handed over people to the power of the great faqihs (Islamic jurist - trans.) and religious scholars, so that people could learn their religious laws through them.

Now, more than a thousand years have passed since the beginning of the great absence, and the Shiites are waiting for his appearance, the embodiment of divine justice and justice, so that he puts an end to the misfortunes of Muslims and leads them towards happiness and true Islam.

Of course, waiting for the imam of the era does not mean that Muslims and Shiites should sit back and do nothing to advance Islamic goals and just wait for his arrival. On the contrary, as the great Islamic scholars and theologians have long said, all Muslims and Shiites are obliged in any conditions to make efforts aimed at spreading Islamic enlightenment, to resist and fight evil and vices within the framework of their ability.

In other words, they must make efforts to prepare the prerequisites for the power of justice, that is, to educate society in such a way that everyone desires justice, and if evil and violence practically exist in the world, then everyone should resist them together. In short, every Muslim is obliged to commit selflessness in the name of faith and Islam and always be ready to meet the Mahdi - the promised one, in order to stand with him in one row.

As mentioned above, his lordship is the imam of the era from 260 AH to this time, and the time of the appearance of his lordship is unknown to anyone, and we must reject the words of everyone who will predetermine the date of the appearance of his lordship.

Yes, on the day when evil and violence reach their climax and people get tired of them and everyone will desire the establishment of true justice, that is, their way of thinking will change, and the Lord Almighty will deem it necessary and useful for the arrival of his lordship, lordship will appear and turn the world into city of ideals and heavenly flower garden.

Duty of people during absence

As retold from the words of the twelfth imam himself, people during his absence are obliged, on matters of religion and laws, as well as their duties, to turn to eminent theologians and authoritative, exemplary theologians of higher instances and in all spheres of life to follow their instructions. It is quite clear that exemplary theologians and prominent religious scholars do not have the right to issue any fatwas and decrees from themselves, but should only use the instructions of the Koran and the decrees of the great prophet and imams. Under such conditions, turning to them is tantamount to turning to the prophet, imam and the Koran, and opposing their instructions is tantamount to opposing the Quran and the imam of the era.

Can a human life span more than a thousand years?

Scientists and researchers say that longevity is not the main cause of death. The main cause of death, in their opinion, lies in the violations and pathology that occurs in all or in one of the most important organs of the human body. If this does not happen, then there will be no death. If these pathologies occur before old age, then the person will die at a young age, otherwise death for a person will occur in old age in accordance with the normal aging process.

Thus, if a person can warn himself against various disorders in the body, then the length of life will not be a reason for death.

For example, we read in newspapers and magazines that scientists are trying to invent a drug that can increase the body's ability for long life. This proves that a person has the ability to live long, but must do so in order to remove obstacles along the way.

Therefore, if a person has a healthy mind, heart, nerves, kidneys, liver and stomach and knows all the hygienic prescriptions and observes them, knows the characteristics of various types of food and if necessary uses them, then he will be able to live a very long time without any complications. and even for thousands of years.

Of course, not everyone in the current conditions can be like that, but if we assume that the existence of such a person (imam) is necessary, why would the Lord God not create such a system of Creation, such conditions and knowledge so that a person can observe everything that is necessary for a long life .

But when we prove by mental and practical arguments that the existence of an imam of the era is necessary and the duration of life for a person is possible and it is only necessary to comply with his conditions and the Lord can create these conditions for whomever He wishes, in this case we will come to the conclusion that the Lord Almighty created for the imam of the era, all the necessary conditions for the life of his highly revered being to be long.

Therefore, the opinion of the Shiites, who claim that the twelfth imam was born in 255 or 256 AH and is still alive and will live until the date Allah wishes, does not cause any scientific and natural contradictions.

In addition, if the duration of his lordship's life is not consistent with ordinary and natural laws, then the Almighty God, with his unlimited power, having created a miracle, can exceptionally save a person for thousands of years at a young age.
