Week of Unity

In these days, Muslims commemorate the Week of Unity. It is well known that there are differences of opinion among Muslims regarding the birth date of the Prophet of Islam: Sunni Muslims consider it to be on the 12th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal according to the Hijri calendar, while Shia Muslims observe it on the 17th day of the same month.

At the end of the last century, in order to overcome this disagreement, scholars of both traditions reached a consensus and proclaimed the period from the 12th to the 17th of Rabi al-Awwal as the Week of Muslim Unity.

Since then, divergence has given way to solidarity. And this is only natural, for the Prophet, sent as a mercy to the worlds, has always embodied peace, harmony, and brotherhood.
