Today Marks the Birth of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) — A Day of Hope and Spiritual Renewal
Today, believers around the world commemorate the birth of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him), the twelfth Imam from the family of Prophet Muhammad (may God bless him and grant him peace). According to Islamic belief, he is the Promised Righteous Leader entrusted with the divine mission of establishing justice on earth.
According to historical reports, Imam Mahdi (p.b.u.h.) was born on the 15th of Sha‘ban in the year 255 AH (869 CE) in the city of Samarra. His father was Imam Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him), the eleventh Imam, and his mother was the noble Lady Narjis (peace be upon her). In Shi‘a doctrine, after a period of occultation (ghaybah), the Imam continues to live by the will of God and will reappear at the divinely appointed time to restore justice, eliminate oppression, and affirm authentic spiritual values.
The birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi is not only a historical remembrance but also a symbol of hope, responsibility, and spiritual renewal. On this day, believers increase their prayers, perform acts of charity, assist those in need, and reflect upon their personal and social responsibilities before God and society.
The doctrine of Imam Mahdi occupies a central place in Islamic eschatology. It shapes a future-oriented vision grounded in faith in the ultimate triumph of truth and justice. In Islamic tradition, awaiting (intizar) is understood not as passive anticipation, but as an active moral stance — striving to reform oneself and society in accordance with divine principles.
On this blessed occasion, Muslim communities hold religious gatherings, recite special supplications such as Du‘a al-Nudbah, and reaffirm the spiritual mission of every believer — to be a bearer of justice, compassion, and truth.
We extend our congratulations to all believers on this radiant day. May it strengthen faith, unity, and the commitment to the highest moral ideals.
