The Month of Ramadan
Ramadan is a special time of the year (the ninth month of the Islamic calendar) when Muslims fast every day from dawn to sunset. This month is the most important and honorable for Muslims. During the entire month, a strict fast is observed, which means abstaining from water, food and intimate relations during daylight hours.
Muslims follow the Islamic lunar calendar, which is 10-12 days shorter than the regular calendar. The beginning of the month in the Islamic calendar depends on the new moon. Therefore, Ramadan begins at a different time every year. The end of Ramadan is marked by a feast (“Eid al Fitr”) for 3 days and the festive prayer is read. The holy Muslim month of Ramadan (Ramazan), in 2025 begins approximately on March 1-2 and ends approximately on March 31 or April 1, 2025. At the end of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate one of the two main Islamic holidays, Eid al-Fitr. The celebration begins on the day after Ramadan ends.
