The Mawlid of Imam Ali
This year, 3 January 2026 corresponds in the Islamic lunar (Hijri) calendar to 13 Rajab 1447, marking the blessed birth anniversary of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib. According to historical sources, this revered figure was born on the thirteenth day of the month of Rajab, and this significant date is commemorated each year by Muslims with profound respect and devotion.
The Mawlid of Imam Ali is widely observed by Muslims around the world, particularly by followers of the Ahl al-Bayt. In many mosques and religious centers, night and early-morning prayers, ceremonial gatherings, and the recitation of devotional hymns are held, while spiritual and religious leaders highlight Imam Ali’s defining qualities, such as justice, courage, and piety.
Imam Ali stands as one of the most eminent figures in Islam after the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was the first to embrace Islam, a hero of numerous battles, and the successor of the Prophet. By divine command, he was appointed by the Prophet Muhammad as his successor at Ghadir Khumm. Furthermore, Imam Ali was the husband of Fatimah al-Zahra, the daughter of the Prophet of Islam.
