The day of Mebes
The 27th day of Rajab occupies a special and sacred place in the history of Islam. It was on this day that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was chosen by Allah as the Messenger, and the process of divine revelation—addressed to all of humanity—began. Prior to the revelation, the Prophet (peace be upon him) frequently retreated to the Cave of Hira near Mecca, where he devoted himself to worship, contemplation, and deep spiritual reflection. In this state of inner readiness, the angel Gabriel appeared and conveyed the first divine words, which later became the first five verses of Sūrah al-‘Alaq in the Holy Qur’an.
From that moment, the foundation of Islam was established, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was entrusted with the mission of delivering truth and divine guidance to people. It is noteworthy that the first revelation began with the command “Read!”, clearly emphasizing the central role of knowledge, intellect, and awareness within the Islamic worldview. The 27th of Rajab—the day of Mebes—is not merely a commemorative date; it symbolizes the spiritual awakening of humanity and the beginning of a journey toward truth, faith, and moral renewal that continues to shape the spiritual development of Islamic civilization.
