Martyrdom вay of Imam Ali al-Naqi (Hadi)

The 3rd of Rajab marks the anniversary of the martyrdom of the tenth Imam, Ali ibn Muhammad al-Naqi (Hadi), one of the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt. He was born in Medina in the middle of Dhu al-Hijjah 212 AH, and after his father’s martyrdom, he led the Imamate from 220 to 254 AH — approximately 33–34 years. His Imamate coincided with the rule of the Abbasid caliphs, and much of his life was spent in Samarra under strict military and political supervision.

According to narrations, Imam Hadi was martyred by poisoning in Samarra on the 3rd of Rajab, 254 AH, and his blessed body was buried there. He was approximately 42 years old at the time of his martyrdom.

On this day, Muslims remember Imam Hadi’s virtues and his role in preserving Islamic teachings, and mourning ceremonies as well as recitations of Ziyarat are held in various religious centers.
