The Prophet of Islam Passed Away on the 28th of Safar

This year, 12 August 2026, corresponds to the 28th day of the month of Safar in the Islamic lunar Hijri calendar. This date is observed as the anniversary of the passing of the Prophet of Islam.

The Prophet of Islam passed away in 11 AH in the city of Medina. In al-Irshad, a work by Shaykh al-Mufid (d. 413/1022), it is stated that the Prophet passed away on a Monday, two nights before the end of the month of Safar, corresponding to 28 Safar.
